Tyler Munson
Hello, again!
So, a little about me.
I am married to a wonderful woman named Oxana (yes, she’s Russian), and we live in the state of North Carolina with our children and assortment of animals.
How would I describe myself as an artist?
I am self-taught across several mediums. I have done oil, acrylic, watercolor, and ink. I am a sculptor, and have worked in wood, clay, and metal. I have refinished and added artistic flair to old furniture. In short, there is a lot I can do.
The next horizon for me is skin, and hopefully soon, I will be a licensed tattoo artist.
Something that sets me, and by extension, my art, apart from most others out there is that I have served over 22 years in the U.S. Army, with most of that time spent in Special Forces. My time in the military has helped to cultivate, not only my world view, but also an already unique esthetic. It may sound strange to some, but if you are willing to risk it, you can find my work in some of the most dangerous places on the planet.
How would I describe my art? Well, my number one goal in any project is to forget my ego and focus all my effort into “lifting up” my subject as much as possible. That being said my art has been described by others as bold, fierce, and sometimes even violent. However, I am capable of gentle, and even poignant work.
I prefer strong contrasts and colors of chiaroscuro, often mixing the ornate, grandeur and richness of the Baroque period along with elements of Art Nouveau, and sometimes Surrealism. What I get as a result is something I like to look at, and I hope you do too.
